Stimmt, das denke ich in etwa auch. Das Video ist noch gut gemacht, aber diese Art Songs von Prince fand ich noch nie gut. Genau wegen solchen Songs fand ich Prince lange Zeit einfach schlecht.

Nicht meine Welt, wie das Meiste von Prince. Damals vielleicht noch 4*, heute keinenfalls mehr als 3*.

gewöhnungsbedürtige Drumprogrammierung am Beginn, die sich aber logisch mit dem ersten Snare Schlag auflöst. Industrieller Eindruck. Konträr dazu eine schöne Blues Gitarre - hier harmoniert Gegensätzliches ! Da bekommen wahrlich nicht alle hin. Leidet leider mit der Zeit am zu wenig Abwechlungsreichen. Tja.

Es lohnt sich, hier mal etwas genauer hinzuhören...
Prince prangert in diesem Song die US-Regierung an, wie diese in den 80er Jahren Prioritäten setzte. Lieber einen Haufen Kohle für Reagan's StarWars-Projekt und die Weiterführung der SpaceShuttle-Flüge (trotz Challenger-Katastrophe)... statt AIDS-, Drogen- und Gewalt-Prävention.

bahnbrechend , klingt heute noch so cool wie damals,

während sich michael jackson um die gleiche zeit von quincy jones produzieren liess, bastelte prince fleissig an wirklich relevanter Musik.

Sowohl Text als auch Musik sind überragend. Erinnert von der Musik her stark an Kraftwerk

Textlich greift der Song die Zeichen der Zeit (Disease with the little name AIDS oder HIV ) auf.

Die Rolling Stone 500 Liste ist äusserst umstritten, wobei ich mit der zeit festgestellt habe, dass sie ein sehr gutes Händchen für relevante und tolle Songs und Alben haben.

Aus aktuellem Anlass.
Ich kann mich an die Zeit erinnern, als der Song erschienen ist, der mir schon damals aufgefallen ist, mit seinem reduzierten Arrangement und dem speziellen Farben-Formen-Wörter-Video.
Wie nennt man diesen Stil: Minimal-Funk? Aber braucht ja keine Schublade, in die hat sich Prince ja auch nie schieben lassen ...
Nicht aufregend, aber schon damals, passend zu Clip und Interpret, ein Farbtupfer in der Musiklandschaft, definitiv.
